Iran nominated to host 2017 WFTGA Convention

TEHRAN, Dec. 15 (MNA) – Iran is among the final four nominees for hosting the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA) Convention in January 2017.

WFTGA Convention which takes place every two years is the most significant and greatest gathering of tourist guides in the world. Eight countries had submitted requests to host the 2017 convention, but after examining the submitted files, four of them were rejected and the qualification of Iran, Singapore, Indonesia and Denmark was confirmed.

All members of Iran’s Tourism Association are expected to defend the candidacy of Iran before the other nominated countries in February, in the city of Prague, Czech Republic.

Arash Nour-Aghaei, head of Iran’s Tourist Guide Association, while noting that sanctions and various limitations have cast doubts over Iran’s chance of being selected as the host country, added, “Iran, however, has a high tourism capacity due to its being an ancient land, and many experiences at holding national conventions, as well as a full-out support from the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization have raised our hope.”

The objectives for hosting this convention include introducing Iran as a must-see country, changing the unrealistic international view of Iran as an insecure place to visit, introducing tourism capacities and the natural and historical attractions of Iran, the world-famous hospitability of Iranian people, as well as their traditional food and ethnic diversity.
